Kahler Asten er bestemt det mest kendte bjerg i Sauerland. Men det er ikke den højeste. Kahler Asten er 842 meter højt og ligger mellem landsbyerne Alt og Neu Astenberg. Man forveksler ofte dette med, at det er det højeste bjerg i Nordrhein-Westfalen. Det er dog Langenberg, der ligger på grænsen til Hessen. På Kahler Asten ligger der en vejrstation og et vagttårn. Omkring Kahler Asten er der mange muligheder for vintersport.
