De Kahler Asten is zeker de bekendste berg van het Sauerland. Maar niet de hoogste. De Kahler Asten is 842 meter hoog en ligt tussen de dorpen Alt en Neu Astenberg. Regelmatig vergist men zich dat het de hoogste berg in Nordrhein-Westfalen is. Dat is echter de Langenberg op de grens met Hessen. Op de Kahler Asten is er een weerstation en een uitkijktoren. Rondom de Kahler Asten zijn er veel mogelijkheden voor wintersport.
