Hovedkirken Sankt Michaelis i Hamburg har fem orgler: Marcussen-orglen på koncertgalleriet, den store Steinmeyer-orgel på vestgalleriet, derover på loftet et fernværk, i krypten den romantiske Felix-Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-orgel og siden advent 2010 Carl-Phillip-Emanuel-Bach-orgel på sydgalleriet. Derudover er der et centralt spillested på koncertgalleriet.
Den store orgel blev bygget fra 1960 til 1962 af orgelbyggerfirmaet G. F. Steinmeyer & Co. som opus 2000 og erstattede den tidligere Walcker-orgel. Udgivelsen af prospektet går i vid udstrækning tilbage til denne forgænger. Den er hovedorgel i Hamburgs hovedkirke St. Michaelis og et betydningsfuldt vidnesbyrd om orgelbyggerkunsten i 1960'erne. I 2009/2010 blev Steinmeyer-orglen restaureret af selskaberne Johannes Klais Orgelbau og Freiburger Orgelbau Hartwig og Tilmann Späth med kun små ændringer i dens oprindelige tilstand. På grund af dens særlige klangfarve betragtes den som et vigtigt neobarok klangmæle.
