I slaget ved Stockach den 25. marts 1799, fire dage efter slaget ved Ostrach, angreb de tabte franske tropper under general Jourdan igen de østerrigske soldater, der blev ledet af ærkehertug Karl, for at lette presset på general Massena, der avancerede mod Feldkirch. Franskmændene trak sig tilbage mod Villingen efter at have lidt store tab i de indledende succeser. Under slaget faldt den østerriske prins Karl Aloys zu Fürstenberg. General Jourdan blev derefter afsat som hærfører.
