Hovedbanegården i Augsburg er den centrale knudepunktstation for storområdet Augsburg og Bayerisch-Schwaben. Her passerer over 50.000 personer og omkring 1.000 tog dagligt i fjerntog-, regional- og godstrafik. Den har den ældste stadig fungerende stationsbygning i en tysk storby. Der er elleve hovedskinner, over 450 veksel og mere end 250 signaler. Signalstationen blev bygget i 1972 til de Olympiske Lege i München for 40 mio. DM.
Den første augsborgiske station blev bygget i 1838 et andet sted, nær det Røde Tor ved Baumgartnerstraße, af München-Augsburger Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft. Jernbanestrækningen München–Augsburg, der blev anlagt fra 1838, blev taget i brug i 1840.
