La estación central de Augsburgo es la estación de tren central para el área metropolitana de Augsburgo y Suabia bávara. Diariamente, más de 50,000 personas y aproximadamente 1,000 trenes circulan aquí en el tráfico de larga distancia, regional y de mercancías. Cuenta con el edificio de recepción más antiguo aún en funcionamiento de una gran ciudad alemana. Hay once andenes principales, más de 450 desvíos y más de 250 señales. La central eléctrica fue construida en 1972 para los Juegos Olímpicos de Múnich por 40 millones de marcos alemanes.
La primera estación de tren de Augsburgo fue construida en 1838 en otro lugar, cerca de la Puerta Roja en la calle Baumgartner, por la Compañía de Ferrocarriles de Múnich y Augsburgo. La línea de ferrocarril Múnich–Augsburgo, que se inició en 1838, comenzó a operar en 1840.
