Heimathaus Holtwick opstod fra et tidligere landmands hus, der blev bygget i midten af 1800-tallet på grunden af det tidligere Holtwicker fattighus. Husets ydre og grundplan er i vidt omfang forblevet uændret gennem de lange årtier, så man stadig i dag kan få en ret præcis forestilling om livsformer blandt de Holtwicker borgere i begyndelsen af 1800-tallet.
Bygningen er det sidste endnu originalt bevarede landmandshus i den karakteristiske kirke-ringsbygning i den gamle bykerne. Gavlfacaden stammer fra midten af 1800-tallet, bindingsværkskonstruktionen med en bagside af bindingsværksgavl formodentlig fra det tidlige 1600-tal, den indre opdeling med forreste opholdsrum og bageste økonomiområder med port er stadig helt bevaret
