Welbergen huser en af de ældste bevarede sognede kirker i Münsterland: de ældste dele af sognede kirke St. Dionysius stammer fra det tidlige 12. århundrede og dermed fra romansk tid. Ved tilbygningen af det sene gotiske kor (1511) blev kirkerummet forhøjet, hvilket kan ses i bindingsværket på nordsiden. Indvendigt kan man se nogle fragmenter af vægmalerier fra opførelsestiden for koret, sandsynligvis skildringer af apostlene. Kirken blev i 1954 grundlæggende renoveret.
