Bernburg er hovedbyen i Salzlandkreis i midten af Sachsen-Anhalt. Bernburg ligger ved Saale cirka 40 kilometer syd for Magdeburg og 35 kilometer nord for Halle. Bernburg har historisk set været en del af Anhalt og var residensby for den askaniske sidegren Anhalt-Bernburg.
Bernburg ligger ved Saale syd for hovedstaden i Sachsen-Anhalt, Magdeburg, og nord for Halle. Dens placering syd for gletsjerfremstødene fra den seneste istid midt i det sorte jordeområde i Magdeburger Börde giver landbrugsvenlige betingelser. I gletsjerhaven i udkanten af byen findes stadig klippestykker med istidsridser.
