Schwanenberg er en del af byen Erkelenz i den lavtliggende Niederrhein-region, nær byen Mönchengladbach. Indtil den kommunale omorganisering i 1972 var Schwanenberg en selvstændig kommune, der omfattede delene Lentholt, Grambusch, Genhof og Genfeld – sidstnævnte landsby kun halvdelen.
