I skoven i Compiègne blev våbenhvilen for 1. verdenskrig afsluttet i november 1918 i en godsvogn. Nu er det en park. Hitler valgte dette symbolske sted den 21. juni 1940 for at acceptere den franske kapitulation. Toget, der står her nu, er ikke ægte. Det ægte tog gik til Berlin og blev sat i brand af SS-tropperne i 1945.
