Stedet er kendt for det navngivne krystal, som blandt andet den russiske zar Nikolaj II syntes var smukt. Det er blevet lavet i Baccarat siden 1764. Baccarat krystal fabrikken blev grundlagt af biskop Louis-Joseph de Montmorency-Laval fra Metz, efter han havde fået tilladelse fra den franske konge Ludvig XV. Denne Verrerie Sainte-Anne faldt i forfald, men gjorde comeback i 1816 takket være den nye ejer Aimé-Gabriel d'Artigues. Han grundlagde filialen fra den belgiske by Vonêche, deraf det nye navn Établissements de Vonêche à Baccarat.
