The Musée du Pays de Laon takes visitors on a journey through time and space, from prehistory to the 19th century. The rooms devoted to Mediterranean archaeology (Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Etruscan and Roman civilizations) have been given a new thematic presentation. Furniture and earthenware from the 18th century, paintings from the 15th to the 17th century, including "The Annunciation" altarpiece panel, circa 1410, and "The Concert" by Mathieu Le Nain.
Regional archaeology is also well represented, with artifacts from the Gallo-Roman and medieval periods. The building stands on a former site belonging to the Templar Order of Laon, and the chapel of the former commandery can still be seen in the adjoining garden.
The Museum is currently open from Tuesday to Saturday, 1pm to 5pm... (since January 2023, access has been entirely free of charge).
