Haverne langs boulevard Gambetta blev anlagt af voldene fra middelalderens bymure, da forstæderne blev udvidet.
Oprindeligt kendt som haven i Vienne (som henvisning til floden, der fra 1853 flød under åben himmel i voldgraven) blev haven anlagt i 1860 mellem Théâtre de la Madeleine og Rue de la Madeleine.
Haven Vallée Suisse minder, ligesom Jardin du Rocher, om den frodige vegetation i en Alpdal. Haven bliver levendegjort af en trappeformet vandfald, der går over i en kunstig bænk med et betonbed, der strømmer under en japansk inspireret bro.
