Helligdommen var en sten- og træcirkel nær landsbyen Avebury i det sydvestlige engelske amt Wiltshire. Udgravning har afsløret placeringen af de 58 stenlommer og 62 stolpehuller. Cirklen var en del af en tradition for konstruktion af stenene, der spredte sig over meget af Britannien, Irland og Bretagne i den sene neolitiske periode og tidlige bronzealder, over en periode mellem 3300 og 900 f.Kr. Formålet med sådanne monumenter er ukendt, selvom arkæologer spekulerer i, at stenene repræsenterede overnaturlige enheder for cirklens byggere.
