Il Santuario era un cerchio di pietra e legno vicino al villaggio di Avebury nella contea di Wiltshire, nel sud-ovest dell'Inghilterra. Gli scavi hanno rivelato la posizione dei 58 socket di pietra e 62 fori per pali. Il cerchio faceva parte di una tradizione di costruzione di cerchi di pietra che si diffuse in gran parte della Gran Bretagna, Irlanda e Bretagna durante il Tardo Neolitico e l'Età del Bronzo Antico, in un periodo compreso tra il 3300 e il 900 a.C. Lo scopo di tali monumenti è sconosciuto, anche se gli archeologi suppongono che le pietre rappresentassero entità sovrannaturali per i costruttori del cerchio.
