Dette sted er knyttet til et enormt udbrud fra den italienske vulkan i Campi Flegrei. Dette udbrud fandt sted for 40.000 år siden og spredte aske over en stor del af Europa. Også her. Under en udgravning i hulen fandt forskerne et lag af denne aske, 10 m under den nuværende overflade. De kunne datere tefra-partiklerne af asken, og eksperterne fandt menneskelige artefakter under det lag, et bevis på at den menneskelige besættelse i denne hule er mindst fra for 40.000 år siden.
