Leiden-borgen er et af de ældste stadig eksisterende eksempler på en borg i Nederland. Bygningen ligger på stedet, hvor de to arme af Rhinen mødes. Den runde bygning ligger på en motte, en kunstig bakke. Arkæologiske undersøgelser har vist, at der allerede omkring år 1000 stod en træbygning på dette sted. I det 11. århundrede blev bakken flere gange hævet til ca. 9 meter over omgivelserne.
