De Braakman er et naturområde og en tidligere havarm af Westerschelde, der opstod ved en rækkefølge af stormfloder i det 14. og 15. århundrede. En af de kendte stormfloder er den første og anden Sankt Elisabeths-flod. I lang tid udgjorde vandet en naturlig barriere mellem Øst- og Vest-Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Havarmen dannede også adgang til havnene i Boekhoute, Philippine, Axel og Sas van Gent. I 1952 blev De Braakman opdæmmet.
