Den første bebyggelse ved Lange Voorhout dukkede op omkring begyndelsen af det 15. århundrede. I 1404 gav Margaretha af Kleef jord til Dominikanerordenen for at stifte et kloster. Den nuværende Klosterkirke stammer fra denne tid. Lange Voorhout, så kaldet fordi det var en udkant af Haag Skov, fik gradvist sin karakteristiske L-form. Denne opstod efterfølgende gennem bebyggelsen af Lange Vijverberg og af strækningen mellem Hoge Nieuwstraat og Voorhout.
