La primera construcción en el Lange Voorhout apareció alrededor del comienzo del siglo XV. En 1404, Margaretha van Kleef donó terrenos a la Orden de los Dominicanos para fundar un monasterio. De esa época data la actual Kloosterkerk. El Lange Voorhout, llamado así porque era una extensión del Bosque de La Haya, adquirió gradualmente su característica forma en L. Esta se formó sucesivamente por la construcción de la Lange Vijverberg y de la franja entre la Hoge Nieuwstraat y el Voorhout.
