La prima edificazione lungo il Lange Voorhout apparve intorno all'inizio del XV secolo. Nel 1404, Margherita di Cleves donò un terreno all'Ordine dei Domenicani per fondare un monastero. La attuale Chiesa Monastica risale a quel periodo. Il Lange Voorhout, così chiamato perché era un prolungamento della Foresta dell'Aia, acquisì gradualmente la sua caratteristica forma a L. Questa si sviluppò successivamente attraverso l'edificazione della Lange Vijverberg e della striscia tra l'Alta Nieuwstraat e il Voorhout.
