Denne landsby i Neder-Betuwe tilhørte fra 1811-1817 den tidligere kommune Beusichem, fra 1818-1998 den tidligere kommune Maurik, og siden 1999 har den tilhørt kommunen Buren. Den samme stednavn findes også i Nord-Brabant og Syd-Holland. I 1915 og 1916 blev der fundet spor i Essenbosch fra en bosætning fra det 2. århundrede efter Kristus, muligvis det romerske castellum Levefanum.
