Merkelbeek er en bycentrum i det østlige Sydlimburg og er en del af kommunen Beekdaelen. Merkelbeek ligger lige nordvest for Brunssum, som landsbyen har udsigt til. Indtil 1982 var Merkelbeek en selvstændig kommune. Fra 1982 til 2018 var Merkelbeek en del af kommunen Onderbanken, som den 1. januar 2019 blev en del af Beekdaelen.
