Det ligger sydøst for Stiens og nord for byen Leeuwarden. Byens kerne ligger øst for N357. Langs og i byområdet flyder Stienservaart og De Joussen. Ved Stienervaart er der en havn. I 2021 havde landsbyen 950 indbyggere. Britsum arbejder på mange fronter sammen med de sydvestligt beliggende landsbyer Cornjum og Jelsum.
