Kapteyn Instituttet er navnet på afdelingen for astronomi ved Rijksuniversitetet Groningen. Afdelingen er beliggende i Kapteynborg på Zernikekomplekset nord for byen Groningen. Instituttet er opkaldt efter sin grundlægger, Jacobus Cornelius Kapteyn. Kapteyn blev i 1878 professor i astronomi og teoretisk mekanik, da der endnu ikke eksisterede et observatorium i Groningen. Kapteyns første "Astronomiske laboratorium" blev åbnet i 1896 på Oude Boteringestraat. I 1913 flyttede laboratoriet til Broerstraat på området under Akademi-bygningen i byens centrum. I 1970 flyttede instituttet til en ny bygning på Zernikekomplekset. Siden 1983 har instituttet været i den nuværende bygning, som deles med afdelingen for Low-Energy Astrophysics fra SRON.
