Kirken i Ulrum stammer fra første halvdel af det trettende århundrede. Bygningen betragtes som et eksempel på tidlig romansk-gotisk, hvor den mest vestlige travé stadig er overvejende romansk.
Ved reduktionen af Groningen gik den oprindeligt katolske kirke over til reformert. Fra denne kirke begyndte Hendrik de Cock Skillelsen i 1834.
