Rådhuset blev bygget af bysnedker Claes Bockes Balck. Den første sten blev lagt den 1. april 1715 af den tre-årige Willem Karel Hendrik Friso, Prins af Oranje og Nassau. Den klassicistiske treetages bygning har en facade med 27 vinduer. Over døren i midtrisalitten står der med gyldne bogstaver inskriptionen "Pace et Justitia". De to statuer over indgangen er lavet af Gerbrandus van der Haven. Pieter Nauta lavede frontonen, som indeholder Stedemaagd, flankeret af putti.
