La mairie a été construite par le charpentier municipal Claes Bockes Balck. La première pierre a été posée le 1er avril 1715 par le jeune Willem Karel Hendrik Friso, Prince d'Orange et de Nassau, âgé de trois ans. Le bâtiment classique à trois étages a une façade avec 27 fenêtres. Au-dessus de la porte du ressaut central, on peut lire en lettres dorées l'inscription "Pace et Justitia". Les deux statues au-dessus de l'entrée sont de la main de Gerbrandus van der Haven. Pieter Nauta a réalisé le fronton, à l'intérieur duquel se trouve la Vierge de la Ville, flanquée de putti.
