Cadzand (tidligere Cadesand) hører til de ældste bosættelser i Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. Det lå på en ø nær Zwin og var omgivet af en "kade" (diget). Under stormfloderne i 1394 og 1398 (St. Elisabethsvloed) forsvandt store dele af "Cadzands ø" igen i havet og blev genopbygget.
Cadzand er en tidlig middelalderlig ringby, hvor husene er koncentreret omkring den tidligt gotiske (katolske) kirke fra begyndelsen af det 14. århundrede. Kirken er blevet restaureret flere gange og overgik i 17. århundrede til protestantisk eje. Det er en toskibet "hallenkirke", hvor overgangen fra romansk stil til gotik stadig er synlig. Den oprindelige store tårn blev nedrevet i 1677 og erstattet af et træ "tagspire". I 1930 blev det nuværende elegante tårn bygget af kommunen Cadzand.
