Huset ved Turfmarkt blev i 1667 købt af admiral Jan den Haen for en belønning på 10.000 engelske pund, som han havde fået for sin erobring af Great Charity ved Slaget ved Lowestoft under den Anden Engelsk Krig. Senere boede vice-admiral Roemer Vlacq i denne bolig. Den sidste fik ejendommen i 1757 forsynet med en rokoko-facade i natursten. Vlacq tilhørte de rigeste indbyggere i Gouda. Han opbevarede i dette hus sin omfattende samling af cirka hundrede malerier. Hans vinkælder var den største i byen.
