Republikken af de Syv Forenede Nederlandene var mellem 1588 og 1795 en konføderation med træk af en forsvarsalliance og en toldunion. Den dækkede stort set det nuværende Nederland. I det 17. århundrede opnåede den stor politisk og økonomisk magt og spillede i en periode en hovedrolle på verdensscenen. Slutningen kom med den franske invasion fra 1792-1795, selvom nedgangen var begyndt tidligere.
