I 1859 blev Blindeinstituttet Sankt Henricus oprettet af Fraterne fra Tilburg i Grave. De blinde fik undervisning og lavede kurve, kosteskaft og børster. På grund af den store tilgang af blinde måtte instituttet konstant udvides, og der var permanent pengemangel. For blinde piger blev De Wijnberg grundlagt i Oliestraat i 1882 af Søstrene af Kærlighed fra Tilburg. I 1966 flyttede De Wijnberg til St. Elisabeths gade. Søstrene forlod klosteret i 1980, og undervisningen var allerede blevet overtaget af en fond. I 1982 blev også blindehjælpen helt overtaget.
