Mammuttræet eller kæmpe-sekvojaen findes naturligt i Californien og kan blive op til 100 meter højt med en stammeomkreds på 25 meter. Det er modstandsdygtigt overfor skovbrande. Sekvojaen er stedsegrøn, har blågrå nåle og en brunrød, tyk, blød bark. Deraf hans kælenavn bokstræ: du kan give den et slag uden at skade din hånd. Træet har en exceptionel kvalitet og er populært på grund af sin attraktive farve. Det ældste nu levende træ er 2000 til 3000 år gammelt. En ung plante koster allerede omkring €3000. Mammuttræet blev sandsynligvis plantet i slutningen af det foregående århundrede ved anlæggelsen af området.
