El árbol mamut o secuoya gigante se encuentra de forma natural en California y puede alcanzar hasta 100 metros de altura, con un perímetro de tronco de 25 metros. Es resistente a los incendios forestales. La secuoya es perenne, tiene agujas de color azul grisáceo y una corteza gruesa, suave y de color marrón rojizo. De ahí también proviene su apodo de árbol de boxeo: puedes golpearlo sin lastimarte la mano. La madera es de una calidad excepcional y es popular por su color atractivo. El árbol vivo más antiguo tiene entre 2000 y 3000 años. Un plantón joven ya cuesta alrededor de €3000. El árbol mamut fue probablemente plantado al final del siglo pasado durante la construcción del terreno.
