Admiral Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak (1880-1923) betragtes som faderen til den kongelige thailandske flåde. Han var den 28. søn af kong Rama V, og han viste tidligt interesse og evner inden for nautiske anliggender. Han tilbragte seks år i Storbritannien, hvor han studerede ved den kongelige marineakademi. Ved sin tilbagevenden til Siam besad han en række vigtige stillinger i den kongelige thailandske flåde. Han er kendt for at modernisere flåden og skabe et professionelt officerkorps. Han blev flåden kommandør i 1922. Ud over sine maritime studier er prinsen også kendt som urteheler, bokser og kunstmaler. Han huskes godt i Thailand.
