Ebenthal liegt im Süd-Osten Klagenfurts. Von West nach Ost erstreckt sich der Sattnitz-Gebirgszug, welcher aufgrund seines Waldanteils ein beliebtes Naherholungsgebiet darstellt. Durch Ebenthal fließen die Flüsse Glan und die Gurk, der einzige Abfluss des nahegelegenen Wörthersees, die Glanfurt, mündet nahe dem Ortszentrum in die Glan. Die südliche Grenze Ebenthals bildet der Radsberg.
