Victor Horta ist einer der großen Architekten des Jugendstils in Europa. Er wurde 1861 in Gent geboren. Er war der Sohn des Schusters Petrus Horta und von Henrica Coppieters. Seine schulische Ausbildung erhielt er am Königlichen Atheneum, das sich an der Ottogracht befindet. In den ersten Jahren seiner Karriere arbeitete er als Dekorateur in Montmartre in Paris. Eines der Meisterwerke seines Talents als Architekt und Jugendstildekorateur befindet sich an der Avenue Louise: das Solvay-Hotel (1894). Später wandte er sich dem Art Deco zu. Ein schönes Beispiel dafür finden Sie ganz in der Nähe der Baron-Horta-Straße in Brüssel: das Palais des Beaux-Arts oder Bozar. Dieser "fast versteckte Tempel" ist meisterhaft in seiner Komplexität. Ein weiteres Beispiel ist "das Haus des Volkes" in Brüssel. Es wurde 1965 vollständig abgerissen und durch den Blaton-Turm ersetzt, eine echte Kaninchenkäfig.
