Victor Horta è uno dei grandi architetti dell'Art nouveau in Europa. Nacque a Gand nel 1861. Era il figlio del calzolaio Petrus Horta e di Henrica Coppieters. Segui i suoi studi secondari all'athenée royal situato su Ottogracht. Nei primi anni della sua carriera, lavorò come decoratore a Montmartre a Parigi. Una delle opere maestre del suo talento di architetto e decoratore Art nouveau si trova in Avenue Louise: l'hotel Solvay (1894). In seguito, passò all'Art déco. Ne troverete un bel esempio vicino a Rue Baron Horta a Bruxelles: il palazzo delle Belle Arti o Bozar. Questo "tempio quasi nascosto" è magistrale nella sua complessità. Un altro esempio è "la Casa del Popolo" a Bruxelles. Fu completamente demolita nel 1965 e sostituita dalla torre Blaton, una vera gabbia per conigli.
