Das Fort von Stabroek stammt aus dem Jahr 1902, als es als Entschädigung für den Durchbruch der Großen Stadtmauer diente, die für die Erweiterung des Hafens von Antwerpen notwendig war. Es war zusammen mit dem Fort von Sint-Katelijne-Waver das erste Panzerfort in Antwerpen. Es sollte gegen Geschütze mit 22 cm Durchmesser bestehen können. Der Bau des Forts verzögerte sich jedoch. Der Befehl wurde 1900 gegeben, der Bau begann 1902 und wurde 1908 abgeschlossen. Es wurde jedoch nicht vollständig fertiggestellt, da keine schweren Geschütze installiert waren und nie installiert werden sollten.
