El Fuerte de Stabroek data de 1902 cuando se utilizó como compensación por la ruptura de la Gran Muralla que era necesaria para la expansión del puerto de Amberes. Junto con el Fuerte de Sint-Katelijne-Waver, fue el primer fuerte blindado en Amberes. Debía ser resistente a la artillería de 22 cm. Sin embargo, la construcción del fuerte sufrió retrasos. La orden se dio en 1900, la construcción comenzó en 1902 y se completó en 1908. No se completó ya que no se había instalado artillería pesada y nunca se instalaría.
