Het Fort van Stabroek dateert uit 1902 toen het als compensatie diende voor het doorbreken van de Grote Omwalling die nodig was voor de uitbreiding van de haven van Antwerpen. Het was samen met het Fort van Sint-Katelijne-Waver het eerste pantserfort in Antwerpen. Het moest bestand zijn tegen geschut van 22 cm. De bouw van het fort liep echter vertragingen op. Het bevel werd gegeven in 1900, de bouw begon in 1902 en was voltooid in 1908. Voltooid werd het niet aangezien er geen zwaar geschut geplaatst was en nooit geplaatst zou worden.
