Il Forte di Stabroek risale al 1902 quando serviva come compensazione per la rottura della Grande Cerchia Muraria che era necessaria per l'espansione del porto di Antwerpen. Fu insieme al Forte di Sint-Katelijne-Waver il primo forte corazzato ad Antwerpen. Doveva resistere a cannoni da 22 cm. Tuttavia, la costruzione del forte subì dei ritardi. L'ordine fu emesso nel 1900, la costruzione iniziò nel 1902 e fu completata nel 1908. Tuttavia, non fu mai completato poiché non furono mai installati e non sarebbero mai stati installati cannoni pesanti.
