Die Kirche des hl. Karl Borromäus stammt aus dem Jahr 1865. Sie ist eines der schönsten Beispiele neogotischen Eklektizismus in der Region. Der Bau der Kirche leitete die Entstehung einer neuen Pfarrei auf dem Gebiet von Ruiselede ein, komplett mit Pfarrhaus, Schulen und Geschäften. Großer Förderer des Projekts war Pastor Karl Doom. Daher nannten die Menschen den Ort Doomkerke.
