Plombières, nahe Aachen, heißt nicht zufällig so. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde dort Plomb, Blei abgebaut. Belgien hatte auch Zinkminen in dieser Region. Aber wenn man Blei und Zink findet, gibt es auch andere Metalle, die als eine Art Nebenprodukt der Zink- und Bleigewinnung zu finden sind. Ich denke an Indium – verwendet in LCD-Bildschirmen – Gallium und Germanium – verwendet in Transistoren, Solarzellen und Glasfaserkabeln. Es sind Bausteine für moderne Technologie, auf die wir kaum verzichten können. Aber das bedeutet nicht, dass es auf jeden Fall rentabel ist, sie abzubauen.
