Das wichtigste Merkmal des Gileppe-Damms ist ein 13,5 Meter hoher und 180 Tonnen schwerer Löwe aus Sandstein. Wusstest du, dass die Ausrichtung des Löwen nicht einfach zufällig ist? Der Löwe steht auf der Damm-Mauer und wurde so platziert, dass er stolz in Richtung der nur 5 Kilometer entfernten Grenze zum damaligen Preußen schaut. Der Staudamm wurde am 28. Juli 1878 von König Leopold II. eingeweiht. Und zu dieser Zeit war Preußen ein wichtiges Land, auf das man blickte!
