Das FotoMuseum wurde am 21. März 2004 feierlich nach umfangreichen Renovierungsarbeiten wiedereröffnet. Das bestehende Lagerhaus, in dem das Museum seit 1986 untergebracht war, wurde durch einen Neubau nach einem Entwurf des Architekten Georges Baines erweitert. Für die weitere Ausarbeitung des Gebäudes nach der Entwurfsphase arbeitete Baines mit dem Architekten Patrick De Sterck zusammen.
