Het FotoMuseum werd op 21 maart 2004 feestelijk heropend na uitgebreide verbouwingswerken. Het bestaande pakhuis, waarin het museum sinds 1986 was ondergebracht, werd met een nieuwbouw uitgebreid naar een ontwerp van architect Georges Baines. Voor verdere uitwerking van het gebouw na de ontwerpfase werkte Baines samen met architect Patrick De Sterck.
