Moerkerke ist ein Dorf in der belgischen Provinz Westflandern und ein Stadtteil von Damme. Im Mittelalter war dies ein lebhaftes Dorf, das hauptsächlich aus Händlern bestand. Dies änderte sich nach der Verlandung des Zwin. Moerkerke wurde erstmals im Jahr 1110 als Murkerka erwähnt. Der Name Moerkerke stammt von Kirche in einem 'Moer', das ist eine Torfabbau oder ein Sumpf. Das gerade Straßenmuster könnte durch die systematische Urbarmachung entstanden sein.
