Boirs liegt an der Sprachgrenze im Tal der Jeker. Der Dorfkern liegt südlich der Straße von Tongeren nach Wezet, die in Beurs eine Anbindung an die Autobahn A13/E313 hat. Auch die Eisenbahnlinie von Tongeren nach Aachen durchquert die Gemeinde. Bis 1957 hatte Boirs seinen eigenen Bahnhof an der Eisenbahnlinie. Boirs ist ein Wohnort in Droog-Haspengouw. Die Landwirtschaft ist dort vor allem in Form von Ackerbau präsent. Die Gemeinde besteht außerdem aus dem Weiler Once, der sich östlich des Dorfkerns befindet.
